Vice President of Operations/Manufacturing



The ideal candidate will be responsible (with all members of the Leadership Team) for day to day plant operations matters. Collaboratively responsible with the VP Finance and Administration and the VP Sales and Marketing for leadership and optimization of the company. This role reports directly to the President regarding general management and strategic direction of the company to maximize long term profitability and sustainability of the Company.


  • Provide leadership and overall strategic direction for Company’s Plant Operations
  • Work directly with Plant Manager to develop effective systems and policies to optimize productivity, quality and customer service
  • Work with Health and Safety Manager to cultivate a culture of improvement and safety throughout the Company
  • Work with the plant Purchasing team to ensure timely, cost effective delivery of all purchased materials and services
  • Working with direct reports to monitor and ensure the development of individual Supervisors,  Managers and the Plant Management Team
  • Recommend appropriate compensation for the Plant Team
  • Manage, train, develop and assess performance and ensure completion of objectives of direct reports
  • Evaluate and recommend capital projects for facility improvements and cost savings
  • Implement and/or enforce company and plant policies and procedures
  • Guide Plant Management Team in aspects such as hiring, evaluating, disciplining and terminating of employees in conjunction with the Vice President Finance
  • Motivate and evaluate staff on a regular basis
  • Monitor, enforce and continually improve on health and safety in the workplace in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Ensure staff are trained and or certified as required
  • Make available and communicate training and information in support of the H&S program and legislative requirements
  • Support and encourage the Joint Health and Safety Committee in their efforts


Candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or Industrial Management or a related field and/or 10 years of manufacturing background. Training in Quality Systems implementation and management would be an asset.


Candidate should have a minimum 5-10 years experience in an Industrial environment with 5 years leadership history. Must be familiar with lean manufacturing methodology, capable of producing comprehensive analysis and documentation and have the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships. Excellent computer and communication skills are essential. Must have an understanding of measurements, tolerances, basic geometry and the ability to read blue prints.

Additional Notes

The working environment includes the business office and production plant. While call-outs during the night and weekends are minimal, they are a reality of this role. The Candidate may travel to offices or plants of the customers and suppliers.
